THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE OBJECT
Roman’s Wide Field Instrument.
The WFI is the panoramic camera aboard NASA’s Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. At its heart, 18 infrared detectors turn faint starlight into electrical signals, revealing an enormous patch of sky in a single exposure.
Those wide surveys are designed to investigate dark energy, map dark matter, and discover worlds beyond our solar system. This display model celebrates the detector mosaic and the structure behind it—a small part of an extraordinary observatory.
